Breathe Mindfully to take care of suffering:

Thich Nhat Hanh writes in “Why we shouldn’t be afraid of suffering”,

When we are suffering, we invite another energy from the depths of our consciousness to come up: the energy of mindfulness. Mindfulness has the capacity to embrace our suffering. It says, Hello, my dear pain. This is the practice of recognizing suffering. Hello, my pain. I know you are there, and I will take care of you. You don’t need to be afraid.

His advice is that when suffering arises in mind, be aware of it, and recognise it. Use mindful breathing to recognise and be aware of the suffering arising itself. So, he advises use your breath when the feeling arises and use the in-breath and out-breath to control it.

This is good advice. Suffering arises in many forms, and the more you are steeped in social media, watching other people’s posts and read them, the more painful imageries are invoked. The advice then is to focus on your breath, take deep breaths all the time focusing on the flow of the breath and use the breath to calm yourself down rather than flip out.
