Downstream effect of test driving autonomous cars off a yard

Thank you Steven Levy, for presenting a first hand, fascinating description of what it is to drive a Google Autonomous Car. For me the biggest takeway from the aricle was the last paragraph where you decribed how the brief experience of (non)-driving an autonomous vehicle influenced you to be more aware of the road conditions when you drove a rental car the next day. Which spins off another thought if I may: when autonomous cars will be eventually introduced, a desirable downstream effect on people who will go to buy self driving cars end up becoming more vigilant drivers if nothing else happens just because they test drove one and didn’t end up buying (just saying). This downsream effet will be positive on the road safety. (who knows the DMV may come up with the slogan “test more autonomous cars”, ;-)). One wonders what will happen to the driving licence exams, just a thought.
