To be really helpful, pressing the heart should work both ways. Else the system breaks down if all you expect is people should click on the heart sign for you, and spread your writing, but you do not reciprocate.

IMHO, a better deal than “pressing the heart” is to write a response if that helps. Responses in Medium are great because they not only show your civility, but also gives you a space to start your own channel of thoughts. Thoughts spark new thoughts and new ideas.
