Should have written about the issue with the Goddess Kali in the Hindu pantheon. She is actually the goddess of Time (hence Kali, or Kal, Kal == Time). As you know, Kal (or) Time has no beginning and no end, she is equally endless and beginningless, and also as Time devours all, Goddess Kali in some sense came to be associated with death. But she is also a giver of life.
Now, having said that, the “official”, ;-), god of death is Yama. Yama, as Varadarajaiah would say, is again, dark skinned, pot bellied small god with dark complexion, carries and trident and rides on a dark coloured water buffalo (think of it as the Hindu apocalypse).
