Void linux
Void Linux is linux distro that, when bundled with xfce window desktop manager, has an ISO file size of 768 MB. This is light when you compare with other distros that have file sizes that run into 2–5 gigabytes of download, and much smaller than MacOS. The distro also runs in a small amount of RAM, so that will leave you, if you want to do data science work in it, some grunt to work with. The distro nevertheless, needs, a bit of work to get to what you want it to do, so I decided to write this primer to help those of you who may want to use Void linux and configure a machine to do data science.
Download and install
Download void linux from the following page: https://voidlinux.org/download/
Choose your iso depending on what machine configuration you want or whether you want to select a x86_64 or a 32-bit machine. I used glibc
version of the ISO, but you may choose musl
