I like your analogy of cellphone. One of the factors that has made chargers ubiquitous in public spaces around the world is the availability of power sockets and cords that are compatible. So, you could in theory, use a three pin plug to plug in an old phone to charge it, or you could use a Type A USB port to charge your phone. Unfortunately (as it seems now), that world is already getting fragmented in the space fo car charging. So you have Tesla their bespoke chargers, and then you have others. How about agreeing on one standard or at least a minimum of a Type 1 CCS everywhere as a bare minimum for charger installation? OK, it will be slow but at least will offer opportunities for backward compatibility and who knows, might as well foster a market for old, used electric vehicles with utilisable values.
