From the first time, in late November 2022, when I tested ChatGPT, I immediately understood that such an innovation was going to change education, but not necessarily destroy it. In fact, as an educator, I am worried by professors or institutions who are eager to ban such tools and try to detect them at all costs rather than keeping an open mind and transparently allowing their use. At this point, I am seriously concerned if professors don’t know how to use ChatGPT better than their students.

Students are going to use generative algorithms, so let’s make sure they do so properly

100% agree with this. ChatGPT or any LLM tool is a friend for a student and the educators, it is NOT at all a problem. There are ways to set assessment questions and assessments that can test a student's learning than resorting to tactics that will make a student resort to chatgpt or similar tools and then blame the poor student for ... what? Plagiarism? I hae even known of professors who themselves take advantage of chatgpt to set questions but when it comes to student grading, they are exceptionally vocal in faculty meetings about punishing students who use chatgpt.
