Referencing should connect readers as far as possible to open access sources, and scholars should in all cases and in every possible way treat the open access versions of texts as the primary source.

This is an excellent proposition, cannot thank the author enough. This was also one of the several points of impetus that prompted me to write that Medium itself can be a great source of scholarly articles dissemination. One of the strong points of Medium is its ability to allow users connect to word, phrase, paragraph (thought) level highlight and commenting on the web version and forking of ideas and comment writing on the mobile version.

In turn, this practice would connect both the specific pages and authors to each other at the idea level. Great to see this story on thoughts on referencing in Medium.
